Air EMS awarded contract from Department of Navy for Fixed-Wing Air Ambulance Services

June 27, 2017

Air EMS, Inc. (Air EMS), a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), proudly announced today that the company has been awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) from the Department of the Navy to provide air ambulance services for DOD-eligible personnel from Diego Garcia.

Diego Garcia, the largest of 52 islands which forms the Chagos Archipelago located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, is located 7 degrees south of the equator, and home to U.S. Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia. NSF Diego Garcia provides logistic support to operational forces forward deployed to the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf areas of responsibility in support of national policy objectives. From the air, Diego Garcia takes on the rough outline of a footprint on the ocean surface giving it the nickname “Footprint of Freedom.” Entry into Diego Garcia is restricted with only active duty, unaccompanied military personnel, or authorized contractors assigned to the island.

The naval base has a medical facility which provides general and urgent healthcare services; however, the scope of these services are limited. In the event of life threatening illness or potential loss of eye/limb there would be a need to evacuate the patient elsewhere for treatment.

Angela Hall, President, states “As a former U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, I take great pride in knowing we will be able to help those in need. Air EMS, in conjunction with its aviation operator, Jet Logistics, provides fixed-wing air ambulance transport to clients within the continental U.S. and worldwide utilizing a diverse fleet of aircraft including one of the industries only Hawker 800A’s for ultra long-haul transports, in addition to Learjet 35/36.”

To adequately vet air ambulance providers for quality of patient care as well as aviation safety, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC), evaluated various aspects of the service including medical accreditations (CAMTS), past performance history, staffing capabilities, communications and air carrier approval through the Department of Defense.
