Operational Flight Paramedic
The Operational Flight Paramedic is responsible for providing high-quality patient care under varied conditions with minimal supervision in collaboration with partner and other healthcare professionals often in an austere environment. The Operational Flight Paramedic is responsible for fulfilling the mission and goals of Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) in a Point of Injury (POI) environment, Search and Rescue (SAR) and Personnel Recovery (PR) while ensuring patient care and safety remain the highest priority.
- Provide CASEVAC, SAR and PR tasks in accordance with approved policies, protocols and guidelines.
- Document all patient care in a legal, professional and timely manner in accordance with all applicable laws and guidelines within 24 hours of mission completion via the ePCR.
- Demonstrate familiarity with all program aircraft and medical interior configurations by ensuring the aircraft and all medical equipment are mission-ready at all times including proper loading and unloading of patients and medical equipment on and off the aircraft.
- Maintain/oversee/manage all medical equipment and supply as well as controlled substances and blood products. Complete and document equipment checks. Operate and trouble-shoot all program medical equipment.
- Communicate critical patient data to aircraft crew members, ground support personnel, regional management/dispatch, and supervising physician as necessary.
- Provide routine medical treatment/assessments (i.e “sick call”) to support staff in country in coordination with the Medical Director(s).
- Communicate routinely with site management personnel on any issues regarding safety of flight, medical equipment/supplies maintenance status, flight crew status, operational communication issues.
- Active participation in the QM and Safety programs.
- Participate in activities to enhance professional growth and development through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT: Air EMS operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and all holidays, requiring the Operational Flight Paramedic to be available outside of regular office hours including overtime as needed. Work is normally performed in an office work environment, in the hospital setting and onboard multiple modes of transportation (airplane, helicopter, ambulance). Travel is required including frequent travel by air to international locations. The Operational Flight Paramedic must be able to:
- sit for more than 8 hours per day.
- wear body armor and other protective gear while performing patient care.
- lift 100 lbs. and carry it up to 500 meters.
- grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
- communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
MINIMUM SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years (4000 hours) as a Paramedic preferably in metropolitan, high-census system or facility and/or OCONUS austere environment.
- Licensed as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP)
- Must maintain current certifications in:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
- Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC)
- Advanced certifications pertinent to scope of care and patient population must be obtained within two years of hire. FP-C is preferred; however, TP-C is acceptable.
- Valid US passport.
- Must be able to speak, read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print in English.
- Successfully pass CONUS Replacement Center training (or similar) to include all medical requirements and background investigation.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years (4000 hours) of critical care experience in an ICU or Emergency Department.
- Experience in military/field/combat medicine (68WF2, 18D, PJ, SARC, SOIDC).
- Experience in OCONUS austere environments/locations.
- Rotor-wing Search & Rescue (SAR) experience
- Experience providing emergency medical care as Paramedic in the aviation environment.
- Experience using NVG’s in an aviation environment.
Note: Many sites require the employee to possess and maintain a U.S. Security clearance at the Secret level (U.S. citizenship required). Paramedics not in possession of required clearance will not be eligible for employment at these sites.

Communication Specialist
The Communication Specialist I receives and coordinates incoming requests for rotor and fixed-wing aircraft including air ambulance, CASEVAC/personnel recovery and aircraft charter. Communication Specialists will have detailed time management skills, excellent public relations skills, and the ability to adapt their approach with each changing request and emergent condition.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Exercising good judgment under pressure while ensuring effective communications are maintained between all aircraft, pilots, medical crew members and customers in an accurate, professional and efficient manner. Facilitating transport requests and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency telephone calls in a fast‐paced environment.
- Facilitating necessary communications, in cooperation with other agencies, including ground ambulances, airport operators, law enforcement, fire departments, rescue groups, and between hospitals and aircraft, in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Flight following of aircraft per FAA and/or vendor requirements to ensure safety of patients and staff.
- Managing emergency communications when necessary. Initiating and coordinating the Emergency Response Plan (ERP), Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and other emergency procedures as needed. Recognize and take action to prevent or correct potentially unsafe actions.
- Maintaining written and computerized records. Accurately document detailed information, transport activity, medical crew/physician information, and/or agency information that may become part of a legal record.
- Performing general office support assignments.
- Participating in mandatory training, competency exercises, drills, and staff meetings. Participation in Safety and QM Committee, as applicable.
- Engaging in activities to enhance professional growth and development through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
MINIMUM SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Communication Specialists must have the ability to function calmly in high pressure situations, think clearly and logically, and make problem-solving decisions based on information given.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills including diplomatic and friendly manner and use of professional vocabulary
- Respond appropriately to incoming information relayed through a variety of communication mediums (telephone, cell phone, radio, email, text, etc.).
- Ability to deal with sensitive information in a discreet and professional manner
- Computer literacy including good typing skills
- General knowledge of maps skills and navigation terminology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- EMS, medical office or tech experience
- Previous experience in EMS, Fire, Police, Air Medical Communications or other high volume call center
- Knowledge of FAA Part 135 requirements
- Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations for communication systems
- Associates degree in Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Business Administration, or Communications.
Applicants must obtain one of the following certifications within 18 months of hire: Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) or Certified Flight Communicator (CFC) certified.
